Shaheed Udham Singh Institute of Biotechnology Shaheed Udham Singh Institute of BioTechnology (SUSIBT) Tangori (Mohali), promoted by Desh Bhagat Memorial Educational Trust, is a dedicated Biotechnology institute in the state of Punjab. The Trust is led by Er. Sukhwinder Singh Sidhu (Chairman), Dr. J.S. Dhaliwal (Vice Chairman) and Sh. Gurlabh Singh (Gen. Secretary) who are professionals and dedicated to the cause of education. The objective of the Trust is to develop a nucleus campus that should impart quality technical education in various disciplines of Technology, to meet the increasing needs of the new millennium and to mould the inherent talent of the youth into skills required in the dynamic and highly competitive world of technology. Biotechnology frontier of science offers enormous possibilities of its use as a premier precision tool especially for the welfare of society and creation of wealth for sustainable commercial and socio-economic development. Application of biotechnology the world over has substantially benefited agriculture, healthcare and environmental protection. With increasing popularity and explosive growth, there are plenty of opportunities available in the field of biotechnology. Biotechnologists can find careers with pharmaceutical companies, chemical, agriculture and allied industries. There is a large scale employment in research laboratories run by the government as well as the corporate sector. Biotechnology students in India may find work in govt. based entities such as universities, research institutes or at private centers as research scientists, in specialized Biotechnology companies or Biotech related companies such as pharmaceutical firms, food manufacturers, aquaculture and agricultural companies. The work scope can range from research, sales, marketing, administration, quality control, breeders, technical support etc. Bioinformatics, another area of Biotechnology that promises to transform research in fields from genomics to pharmacology and life sciences is poised to be one of the most prodigious growth areas. Bio informatics industry is expected to surpass the 50 billion dollar mark transforming an essentially lab based science into an information science yielding rare biological insights and hastening the discovery of new drugs in turn creating a corresponding boom in job opportunities. The Trained manpower requirement in Biotech is much more as compared to other disciplines, as only 25% manpower is available and 75% more is required. The college is approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, the Government of Punjab and is affiliated to Punjab Technical University (PTU) Jalandhar. The college has a fully wi-fi enabled campus. |
